Alliance - Summary

Ever since they left Earth about 76 MYA, the Ryozae (pl. Ryozaem, otherwise referred to as Saurians) have had little to do with it, until a near-tragedy results in the foundation of the Extraterrestrial Homeland Invasion Control System, or ETHICS. When the peace and security that ETHICS works so hard to maintain is endangered by a threat unlike any they've ever faced before, Bernard Sparker, his cousin Jez, and his best friend Mireia find themselves being drafted into service (or isn't that re-drafted?!). Together, with the rest of their team, they attempt to accomplish what no one else has ever been able to before, and do their best to keep their world - or any other world - from ever finding out about it!

The fourth part of the saga, but it is meant to be able to stand on its own.

Alliance - Opening*

"All hope seemed lost, as the feared dragon appeared before them. Silver had failed, and now the children were all alone, and trapped. No one could find them, not even their own dragons!"

"But then Gai'en found them!"

Bernard Sparker's Asiatic features winced at his little sister's sudden, shrill exclamation, and he glanced over at the door. His stories were relatively harmless, if extremely bizarre; but, at seventeen years old, he had come to doubt if his mother would agree. Alliance - One*

Bernard was not a straight “A” student, and he had a thousand and one excuses for this. His favorite was that the long, two-hour ride from Edisto Island to Charleston wiped him out, and it was his parents’ fault, because they wouldn’t let him take a Walkman to help him get through it. His stepfather thought he should get off his butt and go get his license. His mother didn’t like the idea of him driving into town on his own, and thought he should suck it up, or go to a school closer to home. Alliance - Two*

“Oh, for the love of tacos, PICK ONE! I don’t care which one!”

Jez was doing her best to behave with some sort of civility, but the outcry still managed to turn more heads than Bernard would have liked.

Ruben pulled a face and stuck his tongue out at his sister in a moment of uncharacteristic childishness that he seemed to reserve especially for her, “If I don’t pick the right one, you know I won’t be satisfied until I’ve gotten another. Then we’ll have to go through this all over again!”

Alliance - Three[big edit 2.16.2013]

At three o’clock, they made it back to the hotel, where Mireia was waiting for them, minus her backpack, and the Marasuchus that it bore. They perused the bookstore, until Jez’s parents arrived to take her brother home. He had ended up buying a fairly large print of a shrimp boat at night, gleaming peacefully on a shining silver sea, beneath a full moon. He never did state where he planned on putting it, and they were left to wonder if he’d even had a plan to start with, or if he’d finally decided he needed something normal on his walls.

Alliance - Four*

Women talked too much, and they took far too long to get changed. Unable to stand waiting for them any longer than fifteen minutes, Bernard declared the loss of his patience and went to the pool alone. He slipped into the shallows, as he heard his mother’s voice in distant memory, telling him never to swim alone. There was no sense in tempting fate, so he set his back against the tile and concrete wall, propping his elbows on the ledge as he rolled his head back. Alliance - Five*

When they got back to the room, the first thing they noticed was that room across the hall stood open. Loren stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame, evidently waiting for someone. He lifted his eyes to them, stone weary, and asked in a strained voice, “Y’all haven’t seen Saara, have you? I thought she’d be here, by now.”

He leaned a little to glance up and down the hallway. There was no one. He gave an impatient sigh, shivering with pain as he did so.

Mireia walked over to him and took his left hand gently, “Come on in here. I need to talk to you.”

Alliance - Six A soft magenta glow, almost ruby red, grew all around them, with no given source, and there, standing in the middle of the room, was the strangest creature Bernard had ever seen in his life.

Lit surreally by the strange light around them, its coloration obscured, it stood around nine feet tall at the shoulders, and appeared to be searching for a place to stand comfortably. It seemed to be covered almost entirely in fur, which varied in length, and formed a thick, mane-like ruff around its shoulders and the base of its neck. Alliance - Seven They stared into the space where he had been for a moment, and Loren finally declared in a deadpan tone, “And on the evening of the fifth day, God created the Rizeks,” he shook his head, “Weird-ass nosy bastard. I think I’m gonna hit the hay. I think my mind’s had about all it can handle for a while . . . I guess I should call Glenda in the morning. I don’t know how I feel about switching counselors.”

Saara snorted, “I’m not going to do it, and I don‘t have to, because Glenda doesn‘t cover any of my regions. Come on, let‘s get some sleep. You need it.”

Alliance - Eight When Mireia woke the next morning, the room felt like it was freezing.

She rolled over, groaning, “For Heaven’s sake, Sparky, turn off the air. . . .”

“The air is not on.”

The voice belonged to a child. She bolted upright in bed, and heard Jez mumble something incoherent. There was no one there, however. Not even Bernard.

“. . . Hello?” she tried, hoping that either someone would show up or she would get no answer at all.

Jez started to sit up, muttering groggily, “Someone here, ‘Reia?”

I am a writer and an artist. I am working on a four-book science fiction saga under the name of Alysa Taladay, which is usually referred to as The Saurian Liberation Project and often referred to as The Saga. It is about the rise and development of an alien civilization, and the struggle of its people, genetically altered from mere beasts, to survive and be recognized as a sentient race.

My interests/favorite studies include sciences, history, and creative writing.
I happily possess a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts with a double minor in Art History and Graphic Design.

As of my graduation in 2009, I have been largely unemployed. I currently cut grass for a living.

I'm a terrible communicator, and I'm sorry about that. It's a condition, ok? (No, really, it is [link] I've said/done a lot of stupid things in the past, and I haven't been the best person. I beg your pardon, and ask that you forgive my foolishness.
